Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)
Many of the most common vision problems people face today are related to the cornea – the outermost covering of the eye responsible for focusing and refracting light. When the cornea is misshapen or bends at even a slightly variant degree, the light entering the eye does not focus correctly and disturbs vision. Dr. Nachum is experienced in co-managing pre-operative and post-operative LASIK procedures with some of the best refractive surgeons in the New York Metropolitan area. Designed to bring the cornea back into shape, and used to treat errors of refraction including nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism, the LASIK procedure is the most advanced – and most successful – sight-corrective surgery today. Contact us and come in for an exam – we will let you know if this elective surgery is a right fit for your needs.
Before Surgery
The decision to have the LASIK surgery can be intimidating, and even a little frightening. During your pre-operative examination, we will discuss the benefits and consequences the LASIK surgery poses. We will also take a look at your vision problems, construct the necessary cornea mapping to work with the unique shape of your eye, and decide if LASIK is relevant to your vision needs. During this exam you will be instructed on what to do in the weeks prior to surgery, which might include discontinued use of contact lenses, payment options, and post-surgery care.
The LASIK surgery
LASIK surgery is minimally invasive, in fact, complete anesthesia is not necessary. Only a few drops of local anesthesia is needed in the eye to make the entire procedure completely painless. The LASIK procedure includes:
- An initial incision on the cornea, creating a flap which is then held back.
- Precision laser treatment of the afflicted reasons to bring the cornea into a healthy position.
- The layer is brought back into position, the eye closed, and the cornea left to heal itself.
- By combining the precision of the laser with computer controls, Lasik surgery can clear away the thin layers of malformed corneal tissue responsible for most major vision problems.
Post-Surgery
Results vary from patient to patient. That’s why Dr. Nachum’s experience is so vital for success. Dr. Nachum’s patients often experience an uncommon level of visual improvement, which is unseen in most situations. LASIK can fix your vision problems – and with Dr. Nachum you will see fantastic results!
